PSYC 263 - Multicultural Psychology


Credit Hours: 4
This course introduces students to a multicultural perspective on behavior and psychological processes associated with sociocultural diversity. It aims to increase multicultural competency with respect to awareness, knowledge, and skills, and to facilitate students’ understanding of social justice in their personal and professional lives. The course utilizes theories and research from multicultural psychology addressing topics such as: differences in worldviews, social identities (e.g., gender, race, sexual orientation), acculturation process, power, privilege, and oppression. Students will learn foundational skills in the evaluation and communication of psychological research.

Course Satisfies: “Culture & Community” Breadth Area.
Prerequisite(s): PSYC 101  with a grade of C- or better or with permission of the instructor.
