HIST 268 - Russian Civilization Credit Hours: 4 A broad survey of Russian intellectual and cultural history in the 18th and 19th centuries to the present. Major themes include the political and moral role of the writer in Russian society, the “superfluous man” in Russian literature, westernism versus slavophilism, the critiques of modernity by Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, the development of socialist thought, Eurasianism, and Leninism.
