HIST 109 - History of Religion Credit Hours: 4 This course will introduce students to the secular, interdisciplinary and comparative study of religions. Students will learn about the histories, beliefs, and rituals of major world religions, with primary focus on the Abrahamic traditions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). Students will develop basic skills in religious literacy, which entails the ability to discern and analyze the fundamental intersections of religion and social/political/cultural life through multiple lenses. Critical to our exploration will be the importance of understanding religions and religious influences in historical context and as inextricably woven into all dimensions of human experience as opposed to fixed truths set in scriptures.
