ART 346 - Advanced Animation Credit Hours: 4 Frequency of Offering: Offered in alternate years
This course will build upon the skills and concepts introduced in 200-level Introduction to Animation courses, and grow students’ facility with the tools of a contemporary animation workflow through an intensive, project-driven
studio practice. Students will gain experience in advanced principles of animation, pre-production, and methods of aesthetic expression and communication in time-based art production. Lectures, readings, research and screenings will build students’ understanding of animation history, principles, and techniques, and facilitate the exploration of form, method, and content in time-based art production. Topics alternate between Character Design (focusing on character development and expression) and Motion Design (focusing on commercial design, visual effects and motion graphics). ART 346 can be repeated for credit if the topic is not repetitive. (previously ART 233 - Topics in Art: Animation)
Prerequisite(s): ART 214 - Introduction to Digital Media Art or ART 247 Introduction to Animation: 2D Hand-Drawn and Computer Drawn or ART 248 - Introduction to Animation: Stop Motion.
